In May 2008, when I visited Kuala Lumpur for an Exploration Seminar, I got a chance to see Batu Caves Hindu temple. I like to see and learn about temple since I always admired the way people worship their God.
Batu Caves is a limestone hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, located in Gombak district, 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village.
The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia which attracts over 1.5 million pilgrims yearly, making it one of the largest annual gatherings anywhere in the world.Batu Caves was discovered over 100 years ago. It has grown to be an important devotional site for Hindus as well as a highly popular tourist attraction.
I climbed up the ladder to the main cave. To reach the entrance of the caves, I have to go up 272 steps.After the entrance, I could go down to the temple itself with idols of Hindu gods lining the cave walls on both side. The inner cave can be reach by climbing another short flight of stairs to see the opening of the cave beyond is the dark caves which you can go but guided.
